Description

Pickup is from the north of Fuerteventura between 8 and 9am, or at 9:15am for cruise ship guests from the port of Puerto de Rosario. After about an hour’s drive, the hike begins at Las Peñitas canyon, a striking natural environment featuring one of the island’s few remaining dams and a chapel dedicated to the Virgen de la Peña.

The approximately two-hour guided hike explores the canyon’s trails, including a visit to the impressive ‘window’ rock formation, ideal for photographs. This area has been featured in multiple film productions and remains largely untouched by large crowds.

The tour then continues to the Ajuy Caves, declared a Natural Monument and part of the protected Betancuria Rural Park. Formed by ancient volcanic activity, access is via a 500-meter path starting from Ajuy village. Along the trail, you will see fossilized dunes and lime holes, important in the island’s traditional construction and lime industry.

Following a sandwich lunch on the beach, the group returns north, with drop-off at your hotel or accommodation after approximately an hour’s drive.

Note that during winter months, access to the caves may be restricted due to coastal weather alerts for safety. In such cases, the tour visits the village of Ajuy and enjoys lunch by the beach or cliffs instead.
