Description

The first settlers had already discovered the 695 m high summit for themselves. One of the few springs rises from the rock at 460 m above sea level. In the past, these places were considered sacred, as the spring ensured the survival of humans and animals. This is evidenced by the numerous bone finds from the area, which now provide insight into life long before the conquest of the island. The view to the southern tip of Punta Jandia and the magnificent view over the little-known hinterland are impressive. On a clear day, the southern peninsula of Jandia can be seen wonderfully. The destination of the hike is the chapel of the Virgin El Tanquito, which can be reached after an hour. Carved into the volcanic rock, the small pilgrimage chapel at 460 m above sea level is a surprise. Every year at the beginning of June, the procession of the Virgin is organized here and hundreds of locals celebrate their saint. On all other days of the year, hardly anyone uses the hiking trail, which is why this tour remains an insider tip for those seeking peace and quiet. Especially in the fall and winter months, you can discover plants on Mount El Cardon that are supplied with moisture by the trade winds and offer unique contrasts. The summit is not reached on this guided tour, as the last few meters consist of heavily weathered ground and there is no path. Let your tour guide tell you the stories of this fascinating place and discover the beauty of the sacred mountain El Cardon. Visit the interesting rock chapel and enjoy a picnic in a small group of max. 12 people. The tour is suitable for participants aged 9 to 75. No experience of the terrain is necessary. Normal physical fitness is a prerequisite, as the tour involves walking up and down a hiking trail. Sturdy, closed shoes with good tread are important, as the ground consists of gravel.
